George Yeo, former foreign minister for Singapore, has spoken about the state of logistics in Asia.

Expressing his views at the Supply Chain Asia Forum, Mr Yeo stated that, despite emerging markets, Asia has room for more growth.

Alongside large international competitors such as China and India, the current chairman for Kerry Logistics Network highlighted Burma as "the last piece [of] the jigsaw" for the region.

Due to its borders with China, India and Thailand, the country has potential for inland logistics as well. This position, Mr Yeo argues, offers an opportunity to influence and improve local supply chains.

China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations have already invested in better road links with Burma. For example, high-speed rail connections have been established between the two countries - primarily for exporting gas and oil into China. Links have also been established to a deep-sea port in the Kyaukphyu region of Burma.
