London Gateway has started accepting haulier sign-ups for those looking to operate out of the port.

Owned by DP World, the development is set to be the largest logistics park in Europe, as well as providing deep-sea access to the UK - the first major port of the type in the country.

As such, it aims to be a central hub for export, import and UK logistics. It will also be able to handle some of the world's largest cargo ships.

Non-haulier customers have already been signing up for the port. Marks & Spencer was one of the biggest names, claiming a new distribution centre. Having such locations on the docks will reduce the need for further facilities inland.

The port announced last week that the development was on schedule. Once open, it aims for an operation capacity over 100 million twenty-foot equivalent units.

London Gateway is set to launch in the last quarter of the year and it will compete with the nearby Port of Felixstowe.
