London Gateway port 'on track'

30 August 2013/Categories: Industry News

DP World is reporting the London Gateway port project is on schedule.

Expected to open by the last quarter of 2013, DP World claims it will be Europe's largest logistics park, sending cargo directly to markets from its distribution centres, such as the one recently announced by Marks and Spencer.

This streamlined process will help cut down on the time and expenses needed for moving cargo through inland operations.

The port was recently visited by Boris Johnson, the mayor of London, and he said: "London is set to regain its position as one of the world's greatest ports and establish itself once again as a gateway to world trade."

DP World has reported an increase of 6.2 per cent per twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) for containers, with a like-for-like revenue increase of 2.4 per cent. Non-container results were also up by 3.4 per cent.

It aims to operate a capacity in excess of 100 million TEU by 2020.
