Transport and logistics are among the most prolific recruiters of apprentices, according to research from Barclays.
Data suggests 40 per cent of the industry is looking to employ young people via apprenticeships. Hiring this way can be an effective approach to finding people straight out of full-time education and offer them experience and training in their chosen area.
This is coupled with strong growth and demand for such positions, with 55 per cent of people aged 14-25 considering applying after leaving education.
However, Barclays also pointed out that many young people - 61 per cent - are not aware of the apprenticeship option. The data suggests many are also not familiar with the range of industries looking to gain staff through this method.
Most knew about traditional recruiters; 69 per cent were aware of possibilities in manufacturing, in contrast only 39 per cent had knowledge of transport and logistics opportunities. Other sectors and industries also fared poorly when it came to public knowledge on apprenticing.
