The prime minister of Singapore, Lee Hsien Loong, has announced plans to move the country's port to Tuas.

Plans for the site, which is already one of the leading ports in the world, will see it expand and include more efficient facilities. Mr Loong announced this will improve space in the port in the future.

The move forms part of larger plans announced by Mr Loong as part of a speech on National Day. Other plans include the addition of a fifth terminal at Changi airport that aims to double capacity, while a new military airbase will also open in 2030.

Moving the port will also open up Tanjong Paga, which will be built into a waterfront city of apartments, offices and factories.

Container ports currently located in the regions of Tanjong Paga, Brani, Keppel and Pasir Panjang will move to the larger Tuas port when their current leases expire in 2027.
