The all-important Crossrail project - which will drastically improve public transport services across London - is shaping up nicely.

Following on from the news that Woolwich station will be included in the final route, Crossrail has now released images of the progress made at Tottenham Court Road station.

Some £1 billion is being spent on transforming the inner-city station and the work is around 60 per cent complete. 

London mayor Boris Johnson said the 100-year-old station will be three-times bigger once the upgrade has been finished.

"Upgrades such as this to our transport network are vital in order to ensure the capital continues to be the economic powerhouse of the country," he remarked.

Around 150,000 passengers use Tottenham Court Road station every day and this figure will rise to 200,000 by 2018. 

Crossrail will provide quick access across the capital once it is up and running, with services linking the West End to Canary Wharf in just 12 minutes.
