Harris Transport has secured what is arguably the most significant warehouse letting on the south coast for four years.

The Southampton-based company has signed a 15-year lease on the 109,588 sq ft site in Parham Drive in Eastleigh.

Owned by Oceanic Estates, it is the largest warehouse to be snapped up in the area since July 2009.

The deal is also noteworthy because of the apparent dearth of storage space over 100,000 sq ft across the UK - a problem affecting logistics companies throughout Europe.

Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL) Industrial & Logistics team and Lambert Smith Hampton helped to ensure the lease transaction went through and head of industrial and logistics at the former's Southampton office Matthew Poplett emphasised why deals of this nature are so important.

"There is a lack of supply of good quality large distribution space within a 30-mile radius of Southampton," he remarked, before adding that JLL is currently marketing two of the four other sites in the region that are over 50,000 sq ft.
