Accessibility improvements for three West Coast Main Line stations

09 July 2013/Categories: Industry News

Three West Coast Main Line stations are set to undergo work to make them more accessible for passengers.

Changes will be made to Leighton Buzzard, Berkhamsted and Hemel Hempstead as part of the government's Access for All programme.

Passenger lifts will be installed at all three stations, while a new footbridge is to be added to Leighton Buzzard and subways will be built at Hemel Hempstead and Berkhamsted.

Work on the projects began on July 8th and is expected to be complete by February 2014.

Dyan Crowther, Network Rail route managing director, commented: "The improvement works at these three stations will make a big difference to passengers. Once completed, the stations will be easier to use and more accessible for everyone."

The Access for All programme has provided £390 million to make station improvements across the UK. A total of 98 sites have been upgraded as part of the project so far.
