The leader of an accident investigation organisation has urged certain lorry drivers to change their ways if they want to stay on the right side of the law.
Speaking to HGVUK.com, Andrew Drewary, director of First Legal Support said those people who continue to tailgate other vehicles can expect to receive fines from the police.
The government introduced new laws at the start of July that ensure officers can issue £100 on-the-spot penalties to any motorist found to be hogging the middle lane of a motorway or driving too close to the vehicle in front.
It is hoped the reforms will enhance driving standards across the UK's road network, helping to cut down on casualties in the long run.
Mr Drewary thinks many HGV drivers are guilty of tailgating and the consequences of this behaviour can sometimes be "catastrophic".
"You only have to see how close lorries are to each other on the motorways in particular, to know how much of an issue this is," he was quoted as saying.
