Inefficient warehouses costing logistics firms dearly

02 July 2013/Categories: Industry News

Inefficient warehouses are costing logistics companies huge sums of money, a new study has shown.

According to leaders of the Energy Efficiency Financing (EEF) scheme, firms that own or lease sizeable storage facilities are throwing away £190 million every year in unnecessary power bills.

The recession had a huge impact on the transport sector and many delivery organisations are still struggling to make ends meet.

High fuel prices continue to make it harder for UK hauliers to compete with their European rivals and with this in mind, it is alarming that so much money is being wasted on keeping warehouses and distribution centres running.

Darren Riva, head of green financing for the EEF scheme, said there is a huge amount of scope for the logistics sector to become more eco-friendly.

"[Potential savings can amount] to over £3.7 billion per year across the country and more than £190 million in warehouses alone," he remarked.
