Documentary to highlight TfL's work in London

19 June 2013/Categories: Industry News

A new BBC documentary has given people an insight into the work Transport for London (TfL) does in the capital.

Entitled Route Masters - Running London's Roads, the programme enables viewers to see how the organisation manages 21 million daily journeys by bus, taxi, cycle, delivery lorry and van, car, motorcycle and on foot.

The show started last night (June 18th) and is set to run for six weeks on BBC2.

Each episode will focus on a separate part of the TfL's duties, including how it keeps tabs on 8,500 buses operating on more than 700 routes each day.

There has been a lot of debate surrounding London's transport infrastructure in recent weeks, with experts suggesting that plans need to be put in place to ensure buses, trains and Tube services are not overly stretched as the city's population grows.

Leon Daniels, TfL's managing director of surface transport, reiterated just how important it is for London's public transport to run smoothly.

"A well functioning network is vital to ensure London remains one of the world's most vibrant and attractive cities," he remarked.
