Fleet praised for cutting accident rates

17 June 2013/Categories: Industry News

A company that builds transportation infrastructure has been praised for launching a campaign that contributed to a 44 per cent downturn in road accidents involving its employees.

Eurovia Group has been given the Fleet Safety Innovation Award by road safety charity Brake, which recently held a prize-giving ceremony.

The accolade reflected the incredible impact of Eurovia's Drive for Life initiative, which encouraged staff to change their driving behaviour for the better.

It turned out to be a double celebration for the company, as its group health, safety and environment co-ordinator Clare Habbin walked away with the Best Newcomer to Road Risk Management Award.

Michelin and Allied Bakeries were among the other businesses to receive a prize for their fleet safety efforts.

Marc Wanless, senior motor underwriting manager at Aviva, stressed how important it is for enterprises to safeguard their workers.

"All companies operating fleets or having employees who drive for work have a duty of care towards their own drivers and a responsibility to protect all road users," he remarked.
