Heathrow confirmed as third-biggest A380 hub

17 April 2013/Categories: Industry News

London's Heathrow Airport has been confirmed as the third-largest hub for Airbus A380 aeroplanes in the world.

Flight schedule data for 2012 has indicated that 3,697 of the double-decked planes travelled from the British aviation facility to six different destinations last year.

The airport was beaten by Singapore Changi, which had 6,653 scheduled A380 services throughout the 12-month period and Dubai International with 7,259 flights.

While Heathrow managed to beat the likes of Charles de Gaulle in Paris, New York's JFK and Frankfurt, the fact it is lagging so far behind Dubai in the standings is a concern.

This is especially true when considering that Dubai International appears to be rapidly catching up in the "busiest airport" stakes too.

Although Heathrow is still atop this particular chart, Dubai has increased its capacity to 75 million passengers a year and plans are in place to increase this even further by the end of the decade, whereas there have been no concrete proposals for an expansion of Heathrow as yet.
