Logistics companies that frequently operate in West Yorkshire and York look set to benefit from a major overhaul of the transport infrastructure across the region.

Councillors are expected to give the go ahead for a £1.4 billion regeneration of roads, railways and other infrastructure projects, the Yorkshire Post reports.

A list of more than 30 schemes has been drawn up, which will include substantial improvements in Wakefield, Bradford, Leeds and York over the next ten years.

York will receive a new bus interchange, while an extra lane will be added to the M62 in order to relieve congestion. A new carriageway to Leeds/Bradford Airport is also in the pipeline and 20,000 new jobs could be created as a result of the improvements

"An immediate priority for economic recovery and growth is reducing congestion and overcrowding on the transport network," Bradford Council leader David Green was quoted as saying.

Traffic is a problem in this part of the world, as a recent study by TomTom showed that Leeds/Bradford is the fourth most congested area in the UK, with journey times taking 26.2 per cent longer than they should during peak times.
