Heathrow Airport is expected to handle around 1.2 million passengers over the Easter Bank Holiday, making it the busiest period of 2013 so far.

Bosses at the London-based aviation hub think tomorrow (March 28th) will be the most hectic day overall, with 116,000 people heading overseas ahead of the four-day weekend.

In addition to this, forecast figures have shown that Heathrow will accommodate more than 3.6 million customers during the two-week school break between March 28th and April 14th.

"Easter is a special time for families at Heathrow - our team have been busy preparing and we are ready to welcome passengers making the most of the holiday," commented operations director at Terminal 5 Susan Goldsmith.

With the airport being so busy over the next few weeks and taking into account the fact that Heathrow received around 70 million passengers in 2012, it is hardly surprising that aviation experts are worried that the facility is too small to cater for the growing demand for flights.

Heathrow chiefs submitted a report to the Airports Commission last week, in which it highlighted an urgent need for extra airport capacity in the south-east of England.
