Bob Armstrong named president of Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in North America

Bob Armstrong is now the president of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in North America, following the retirement of Ed Cuylits, as executive director. Bob Armstrong, is president of Armstrong Trade and Logistics Advisory Services Inc. (ATLAS) and until recently he headed the Supply Chain & Logistics Association Canada (SCL).

"CILTNA is thrilled that someone of Bob Armstrong's stature as a transportation and logistics expert, a well known international speaker and author has agreed to take on this important challenge", said David Collenette, chair of the Chartered Institute. "Bob is eager to help lead the implementation of the Institutes's new business plan to expand the membership in Canada and the United States, develop strategic alliances with like-minded organizations and continue to develop partnerships with educational institutions which enhance the education and training of transportation and logistics professionals."

Armstrong has over 40 years of experience in the fields of global supply chain, international trade, cross border logistics and customs regulations and procedure.
He has also served as President and CEO for the Canadian Association of Importers and Exporters Inc. and President of the Association of International Automobile Manufacturers of Canada (AIAMC).

Earlier in his career he spent many years in senior management with the supply chain and logistics industry, a major government relations company, and a large public accounting firm, where he was a partner. Among his many industry roles Bob has specialized in the marine sector since 2005 developing several short sea shipping initiatives for the St. Lawrence-Great Lakes network. His other activities include Chairman of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, Treasurer of the Hong Kong Canada Business Association, Director of the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation, Chair of the METROLINX Goods Movement Strategy for the Greater Toronto-Hamilton Area and Member of the Goods Movement Roundtable for Peel Region.

In May 2005, Armstrong was awarded the prestigious McMillan Binch Mendelsohn Canadian Achievement Award in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Canada and to Canada's advancement in International Trade. The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport(CILT) is a professional body, originally founded as the Chartered Institute of Transport in 1919, representing the transport and logistics industries worldwide. It received a Royal Charter in 1926. CILT is a membership based organization with over 30,000 members in over 30 countries
