BTP launches sexual harassment campaign

17 April 2015/Categories: CILT, Industry News, Rail, Transport Planning

As part of a collaboration with Transport for London (TfL), the British Transport Police (BTP) has released a hard-hitting video urging people travelling in the capital to report instances of sexual harassment. It is aimed at young women between the ages of 16 and 35.

The clip is based around a woman facing increasingly serious harassment on her London Underground journey, which ends with a simple question: “would you report it?” In the video, this is exactly what the woman does, texting the BTP on a dedicated number for reporting such incidents.

The campaign was launched after figures showed that ten per cent of Londoners had experienced some form of sexual harassment while using TfL services, yet over 90 per cent of incidents were not reported.
Assistant chief constable Mark Newton said: “Everyone has the right to travel on the transport network safely and we will not tolerate any unwanted sexual behaviour.”
