IAG Cargo takes off in Kuala Lumpur

28 May 2015/Categories: CILT, Industry News, Aviation, Freight Forwarding

IAG Cargo has officially opened its newest route, operating between London Heathrow and Kuala Lumpur. Flights to and from this booming Asian trade hub commenced today, connecting Kuala Lumpur to IAG Cargo’s global network of over 350 destinations. Businesses looking to trade with this important market will benefit from up to 15 tonnes of capacity on each daily flight.

The new route comes into service as Malaysia enjoys strong economic growth and growing trade. In 2014 the Malaysian economy grew at its fastest pace in four years[1] and is expected to expand an additional 4.7% this year, increasing to around 5% in 2016[2]. When it comes to trade, exports are forecast to grow 6.8% and imports 6.9% in 2016[3], providing a significant opportunity for air cargo carriers.

John Cheetham, regional commercial manager for Asia Pacific & India at IAG Cargo, commented: 'As one of the world’s busiest freight destinations, Kuala Lumpur is crying out for cargo carriers that can support a wide range of cargo flows. IAG Cargo delivers against these requirements by providing businesses with access to one of the world’s largest cargo networks and a wide range of high-quality premium products. We therefore look forward to playing a role in helping enable Malaysia’s future success.'

IAG Cargo’s premium product portfolio benefits the wide range of businesses that fly in and out of Kuala Lumpur and is ideally suited for the transport of goods including electronics, garments, perishables and valuables. Flights depart Heathrow daily at 20:15, arriving into Kuala Lumpur at 16:00 local time. Returning flights leave Kuala Lumpur at 23:05 and arrive into Heathrow at 05:25 the next morning, enabling next day connections to almost all destinations on the IAG Cargo network. The route is operated by a Boeing 777-200ER.
