A new tram platform is being built at Wimbledon, which will help to increase the frequency of tram services between Wimbledon and Croydon by 50%.
In addition to the construction work, four new trams will be joining the route - and this will result in 12 running every hour along the busy route from Wimbledon to Croydon.
This comes as part of a wider investment programme from Transport for London, and the building work is due to start next month.
A short section of the route will be closed between Dundonald Road and Wimbledon from July 13th to October in order to facilitate this work.
Director of London trams Sharon Thompson said the enhancement work represents a vital development, as an increase in capacity is essential for such a busy service.
"When complete in 2016, our customers will benefit from a more frequent service with the introduction of four new trams across the Wimbledon to West Croydon branch," she commented.
