Two Vice Presidents of leading transport and logistics professional body, the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, have been appointed by Network Rail. Sir Peter Hendy CBE has been appointed as the new Chair of Network Rail and Richard Brown CBE as Special Director of Network Rail.

Sir Peter Hendy CBE has been Commissioner of Transport for London (TfL) since 2006, having previously served since 2001 as TfL’s Managing Director of Surface Transport. Peter led and prepared for the successful operation of London’s transport for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Peter has been a Vice President of the Institute since 2008 and was the Institute’s President during 2011/12.

Richard Brown CBE was Chief Executive of Eurostar from August 2002 to April 2010 and Chairman until June this year, and was previously Commercial Director and main Board Director of National Express Group plc, where he set up its UK Trains Division, at the time the largest UK passenger franchise operator. Richard was the Institute’s President during 2008/9.

Commenting on the appointments Steve Agg, Chief Executive, CILT, said: ‘Both Sir Peter Hendy and Richard Brown CBE are extremely well-respected and influential figures in the transport industry.
