O’Donovan Waste Disposal appoints environmental manager

30 June 2015/Categories: CILT, Industry News, Freight Forwarding, Logistics & Supply Chain

O’Donovan Waste Disposal, London’s leading waste management company, continues to demonstrate its commitment to operating to the highest levels of sustainability with the appointment of a new environmental manager.

Naomi Cohen joins the 140-strong O’Donovan team to further improve on the company’s environmental performance across its logistics and waste operations, as well as dealing with ongoing compliance with existing regulations.

Naomi brings a wealth of experience having previously trained and qualified as a solicitor when she dealt with commercial disputes and environmental issues. From this, Naomi developed a passion for environmental issues and went on to specialise in the field, studying for a MSc in Environmental Technology, at Imperial College, and graduating with distinction.

Naomi was drawn to O’Donovan after seeing an article managing director, Jacqueline O’Donovan, wrote for a leading industry magazine. 'I felt a real affinity with Jacqueline’s commitment and hands-on, proactive approach to tackling waste issues, so I got in touch to see if there was an opportunity to join the business and play a role in driving forward a company that is passionate about sustainability,' comments Naomi.
In her remit as environmental manager, Naomi will be focusing on identifying certification opportunities that formally recognise O’Donovan’s approach, as well as expanding upon the company’s initiative to continue to improve efficiencies and environmental performance across its operations.

'With our new site in Alperton reaching its final construction stage, I will be reviewing the processes already in operation to identify where these can be optimised to improve sustainability. I will also be looking for ways to expand our supply chain to ensure we maximise the potential of the materials we recycle and produce from waste,' adds Naomi.

The new appointment is the latest of a number of steps the independent, family-run business has taken to make the company as environmentally friendly as possible, a commitment reflected in its FORS (Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme) Gold Standard accreditation which has been achieved four years running.

Jacqueline O’Donovan, managing director of O’Donovan Waste Disposal, comments: 'I’m delighted to welcome Naomi to the O’Donovan team. In creating this new role, we’re committed to further improving the sustainability of our existing practices, as well as identifying additional opportunities to set the industry benchmark for environmental best practice. I’m confident that with her passion and intellect Naomi will make a positive contribution to the business for the coming years.'
