Deansgate Rail Station set for revamp

19 August 2015/Categories: CILT, Industry News, Rail, Transport Planning

Castlefield stop transformation, which will be completed in the coming weeks as part of a major programme of works to expand the tram network through the city centre.

TfGM Committee Chair, Councillor Andrew Fender, said: “Securing the NSIP funding for these much needed improvements to Deansgate station was an excellent coup and I am delighted that work can now begin.

“Not only will the work make it a much more pleasant experience for passengers using the station, it will also complement the investment we have already made into ongoing transformation of the Deansgate-Castlefield Metrolink stop.”

Alex Hynes, Managing Director of Northern Rail, said: “The improvements will bring real benefits to our customers travelling through Deansgate, with a brighter, more welcoming and easier to access station environment.”

Work to improve the station will cause minimum disruption to passengers and is due for completion at the end of October 2015.

NSIP is a £150 million Government fund to improve station facilities and deliver significant passenger benefits across England and Wales. For more information, visit www.networkrail.co.uk/nsip
