Castlefield stop transformation, which will be completed in the coming weeks as part of a major programme of works to expand the tram network through the city centre.
TfGM Committee Chair, Councillor Andrew Fender, said: “Securing the NSIP funding for these much needed improvements to Deansgate station was an excellent coup and I am delighted that work can now begin.
“Not only will the work make it a much more pleasant experience for passengers using the station, it will also complement the investment we have already made into ongoing transformation of the Deansgate-Castlefield Metrolink stop.”
Alex Hynes, Managing Director of Northern Rail, said: “The improvements will bring real benefits to our customers travelling through Deansgate, with a brighter, more welcoming and easier to access station environment.”
Work to improve the station will cause minimum disruption to passengers and is due for completion at the end of October 2015.
