Investigation into lack of skilled drivers welcomed by FTA

15 September 2015/Categories: Industry News

An investigation into the lack of skilled drivers in the UK has been hailed as good news for the national economy.

The Transport Committee has launched a skills and workforce planning inquiry to establish what action the government has been taking to address industry concerns about the lack of training for drivers in the road haulage sector.

This has been welcomed by the Freight Transport Association (FTA), which noted that this issue has been a concern for its members for some time.

David Wells, chief executive of the industry body, said he has been highlighting the problems this can cause in recent conversations with MPs.

"I have emphasised the real problems the logistics sector is having in finding skilled staff and the government needs to play its role in helping deliver the goods for the UK economy," he commented.
