Mary Queen of Scots helps launch new buses to travel on Scotland’s ‘royal route’

20 October 2015/Categories: Industry News, Bus & Coach

Mary Queen of Scots supported the launch of the bus firm’s ‘Royal Route’ at Linlithgow Palace along with company executives.

The 38 Royal Route travels on from Stirling passing through Falkirk and West Lothian (Linlithgow/Winchburgh), Kirkliston and Newbridge on route to terminate in Edinburgh at Waterloo Place with up to 4 buses an hour in parts. It is supported by the 38A which stops off at the popular Gyle Shopping Centre.

A total of 20 vehicles will be used on the route, all featuring an eye-catching new livery which features popular ‘Royal’ landmarks including both Stirling and Edinburgh Castles and Linlithgow Palace, birthplace of Mary I of Scotland.

The brand new vehicles are the result of £3.1million investment and are among the best and most eco-friendly in the fleet.

Paul McGowan, Managing Director of First Midland Bluebird, said: “We are continuing our drive to improve our services and attract more people onto our buses and I’m delighted to introduce our new ‘Royal Route’ vehicles, which are among the best and most eco-friendly we have. Passengers can enjoy pleasant, more comfortable and smoother journeys and keep connected on the move with our free wifi as we call at some of the most iconic locations in Scotland.”

The single decker Micro-Hybrid vehicles, one of the world’s most fuel efficient buses, come equipped with leather seats, free wifi for customers and extra room for wheelchairs and passengers with buggies.

Each new vehicle is also fitted with the latest energy saving technology including a braking power system akin to racing cars, re-using energy generated to power other parts of the bus.

The Micro-Hybrid buses are also lighter than a conventional single deck bus and, together with advanced engine technology, are around 30% more fuel efficient.

First Midland Bluebird, part of the First Scotland East operating company, has invested a total of £10million in new vehicles in the past two years, with an improved fleet serving Stirling, Falkirk, West Lothian, Edinburgh and the Borders.
