Rhenus Logistics has rallied to the cause of a traditional Chinese motorsport event. The company has air freighted two 1985 Audi 80 Quattro four wheel drive cars from Bebington, UK, to the rally’s start line in Hong Kong, south east China.

The Hong Kong-Beijing Rally 2015, which celebrated its 30th anniversary this year, took place from 12th to 27th September, covering more than 3,000 km across seven provinces of China. Rhenus Logistics was tasked with the challenge of transporting the two rally vehicles from a car showroom in the Wirral to the waiting hands of Victor Ma, the owner of classic car and rallying company, S&P 4x4.

Mr Ma, a veteran of the Paris-Dakar Rally and organiser of the Beijing-Lhasa Rally, sourced the Audi 80 Quattro vehicles because the same model won the inaugural Hong Kong-Beijing Rally in 1985. Travelling from the Wirral to London Heathrow and then on to Hong Kong, via Luxembourg, the entire journey took just ten days.

Adam Nowell, overseas manager at Rhenus Logistics UK, said: “Air freight is not simply about just sending cartons and pallets. In order to respond to the varying demands of a diverse customer base, we have to be flexible in our approach and this means we are able to take on more complex projects, such as transporting these rally cars to Hong Kong.”
