Clothes retailer River Island has announced the launch of a new in-store delivery service called Click & Don't Collect.
This will see items taken from the store to the customer's address within 90 minutes, or at a later time of their choosing.
Intended to resolve the growing issue of non-collection of online orders, this give consumers the option of switching to a same-day delivery offered by Shutl.
A report commissioned by Shutl shows that after placing an order online, one-fifth of UK shoppers requested a refund instead of collecting in store - a trend that has left those affected with stock level issues.
Shutl chief executive Tom Allason said: "There are practical implications too - for example, how to hold additional stock and where best to direct online customers from a store layout perspective."
Click and collect was initially considered a competitive advantage in retail, but with so many firms now offering the service, it is becoming something of a necessity for multi-channel retailers.
