Transport for London (TfL) has announced the launch of a public consultation for several new Thames crossings.
These include two in east London - Gallions Reach and Belvedere - that are intended to be used for freight transport.
According to the Freight Transport Association (FTA), this development is a must for providing the kind of connectivity the area needs in order to grow.
FTA head of policy for London Natalie Chapman said her organisation is delighted to hear of the new TfL proposals, as cross-river connectivity is poor in east London compared to the west.
At present, the main alternative crossing in east London is the Blackwall Tunnel, which has a four-metre height limit, which restricts access for taller lorries.
Ms Chapman said: "FTA fully supports the proposals for a new crossing at Silvertown and today’s announcement of plans for additional crossings further east is good news for business."
