Improvements scheduled for waiting times at Oulton Broad North

17 December 2015/Categories: Industry News

Network Rail is set to make changes to the Oulton Broad North level crossing to ensure motorists will benefit from less waiting time.

Concerns were raised by the community and Peter Aldous MP and consequently changes will be made to signalling equipment for the crossing in the new year.

By adapting the signalling equipment it is hoped that there will be a breakdown in traffic congestion in the area.

Work is planned to begin in February 2016 and is hoped to be completed by October of the same year due to the station's particularly busy location.

Network Rail will move the signal 50 metres down the platform, in order to allow trains to run into the station while the crossing remains open to vehicles. Currently, the barrier can be down for up to three-and-a-half minutes, causing heavy delays, particularly at peak times of the day.

Richard Schofield, Network Rail route managing director, said that making these changes if part of the company's "Railway Upgrade Plan to make sure that growing numbers of people can travel by rail and that the railway continues to support economic growth".
