Local MP opens college’s Business & Logistics Centre

18 December 2015/Categories: CILT, Industry News, Logistics & Supply Chain

Andrew Percy, MP, recently launched Goole College’s Business & Logistics Centre for local employers and businesses.

The MP for Goole & Brigg attended the ceremony in November 2015 to cut the ribbon alongside Goole College Principal Caron Wright, Hull College Group Chief Executive Gary Warke and Director of External Funding at HCUK Training, Dan Howard.

The Business & Logistics Centre forms part of a £500,000 expansion project for Goole College, in partnership with HCUK Training, and jointly funded with the Humber Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), to establish a bespoke training and skills facility offering Business and Management programmes, as well as conference and meeting facilities for local employers and businesses.

Andrew Percy, MP for Brigg and Goole, said: “Congratulations to Goole College, HCUK Training, and the Humber LEP on the launch the Goole Business & Logistics Centre.

“I am a big supporter of the college and am delighted to be able to help launch this brilliant facility which will offer training solutions and qualifications from a wide range of nationally recognised professional bodies to local businesses.

“There has been a lot of demand for a centre such as this and we look forward to it being a positive addition to the Goole area.”

Dan Howard, Director of External Funding at HCUK Training added: “As a resident of Goole, it is great to see such a modern facility for local business needs on our doorstep.

“This dedicated centre is specifically developed for small and medium sized enterprises; offering the business acumen to develop and grow, such as help with bids and tenders; professional management courses and marketing management courses.”

The occasion also saw the launch of the HCUK Training Logistics Gateway, a unique qualification and training pathway for local and regional businesses and their employees to develop key logistics and supply chain skills which will add measurable business value and enhance individual career development.

Dan Howard continued “The Logistics Gateway will offer more than just great courses – it will provide professional development and bespoke and standalone training to support individual business needs.

“The extent of investment around the Humber means there is a thirst for fresh talent and new energy to make those investments a success.

“There are some great opportunities both for individuals to build and progress their careers, but also for companies, all of which will be involved – to a greater or lesser extent – in logistics and supply chain activities, to gain competitive advantage by investing in their staff.”

The Logistics Gateway will also offer ‘soft skills’ training in communication, performance management, interpersonal skills, decision-making and initiative-taking.
