WTO Trade Alliance gets new member

18 December 2015/Categories: Industry News

Maersk has become the latest member to join the Global Alliance for Trade Facilitation, which was launched earlier this year.

The alliance itself was established as a public-private partnership by the World Trade Organisation (WTO) in order to support the Trade Facilitation Agreement, reports Logistics Manager.

Also included in the alliance are the Chamber of Commerce, the World Economic Forum and delivery company DHL alongside supermarket chain Wal-Mart.

The WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement will aim to dispel issues throughout supply chains and eradicate the blockages they incur along the way.

The agreement is also intended for "reinvigorating global trade" according to Nils S Andersen, CEO of the Maersk Group.

Maersk Group as a global conglomerate, operating in global trade, shipping and energy, has many strands of supply chain and will benefit from being part of the alliance.

Similarly, Mr Anderson has said that joining the alliance will see the Maersk Group benefit too, as it will use its "expertise to support the implementation [of the alliance] and stimulate its growth".
