Network Rail's £1m West Coast upgrade

21 December 2015/Categories: Industry News

Some of the 20,000 Network Rail staff working on the company's Railway Upgrade Plan will be upgrading the West Coast main line at Weedon.

The improvements to the main line at Weedon are set to see an uplift in the reliability of the railway travel through the area.

The investment by Network Rail will total £1 million and its focus is to benefit its passengers as the money will be spent on replacing more than 2km of drainage under the track at Weedon.

Passengers will benefit as these changes will reduce the need for speed restrictions on the line and will provide a more reliable service on what is one of the busiest sections of railway in Europe.

Work will begin at 8pm on Christmas Eve and trains will be able to run on the new track from 5.30am on Monday 29th December.

Network Rail project manager Paul Eamonson said: "This is a really important piece of work as part of our Railway Upgrade Plan which will increase the life expectancy of the track and provide a more reliable railway for passengers."
