Thameslink viaduct now in use in London

05 January 2016/Categories: Industry News

Thameslink Programme's Christmas and New Year work has seen a new viaduct brought into use at London Bridge.

Set to carry trains to Charing Cross and Waterloo East, the engineering for the viaduct took a full ten days over the holidays to complete.

This viaduct forms part of the Thameslink Programme's rebuilding of the railway and station at London Bridge and this part of the project also opened new track, signalling and the transfer of control from London Bridge to Three Bridges operating centre.

Thameslink Programme director Simon Blanchflower addressed the interruptions that occurred during this time by thanking "passengers for their patience" during the festive season while the provider was installing the major improvements.

Mr Blanchflower said that ongoing reconstruction of London Bridge station is "rapidly taking shape and we are looking forward to opening new station concourse in August this year".

Train service provider Southeastern saw no trains calling at various stations including London Bridge during this time, however Southeastern's managing director David Statham agreed with Mr Blanchflower that it was necessary "to improve the railway for passengers for years to come".
