McLaren to drive growth through logistics

08 January 2016/Categories: Industry News

McLaren's production centre in Woking has hired logistics staff to help it add a second shift to its manufacturing process.

The luxury sports car manufacturer has been expanding its road car sales incrementally, with 2015 recording peak numbers of 1,654 sales.

As the company looks to add a second shift, this means that 250 new jobs will be created in its production, quality and logistics departments, which the company is seeing as a sound future investment.

When visiting the McLaren Technology Centre, business secretary Sajid Javid said: "Today's news that it is creating 250 new jobs is a sign that the UK auto industry continues to thrive."

He added: "I was particularly impressed to hear that over half of all the components and parts that go into their cars are manufactured here in the UK, and this is creating countless more jobs in the supply chain."

The proposed second shift is expected to start in February 2016, which will aim to increase the current production rate from 14 cars per day to 20 per day by the middle of this year.
