Intel supply chain free from conflict

08 January 2016/Categories: Industry News

"Every product, every processor, every modem, every device, every system we ship, everything we sell will be conflict free," says Intel CEO Brian Krzanich.

Mr Krzanich announced that the company's entire supply chain will now be free of conflict minerals this year at the Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas, reports SupplyManagement.com

This is one of the goals that the multinational company set itself following the eradication of tantalum, tin tungsten and gold from its processors, that directly or indirectly financed armed groups in the Democratic Republic of Congo,

From the second quarter of 2016, Intel will display a logo on its products showing that its products and the supply chain that helped to produce them are completely conflict free.

The company has a policy that states that it must work carefully with its suppliers in line with the OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains of Minerals from Conflict-Affected and High-Risk Areas.

Intel must then feed back information to the OECD and confirm that the minerals in its supply chain are completely conflict free. The company will also have to provide public reports on its progress and help to develop solutions for the industry to eliminate conflict materials.
