From 1st July 2016, IMO regulations requiring the verification of a freight container’s gross mass will become mandatory. The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport’s Ports, Maritime & Waterways Forum will be holding the first of a series of seminars on Wednesday, 3rd February which will focus on the implications of the verifications.

The first seminar, titled; Container Weighing: a Legal Obligation - Find out what you need to know will highlight the issues and provide an insight into what your company should be doing. It will also give you the opportunity to discuss the topic with other supply chain professionals.

Keynote speakers include:

  • Matthew Gore, Senior Associate, Holman Fenwick Willan, who will be covering ‘the legal, contractual and commercial implications’
  • Brian Sullivan, Business Development & Logistics Insurance Director, TT Club, will cover ‘making it happen’
  • John Corr MILT, Tour Principal, Sound Moves (UK) Ltd, focussing on ‘a freight forwarder's point of view’
  • Jamie Frater, Senior Asset Manager, London Container Terminal, Tilbury, looking at ‘the ports' perspective’
  • Mark Rowbotham FCILT, Training Consultant, Portcullis ISC, who will provide a ‘Union Customs Codes update’

The first seminar will be hosted by Holman Fenwick Willan at their offices in London.

Sue Terpilowski OBE, Chair, Ports, Maritime & Waterways Forum, CILT, said: ‘Time is running out for all parts of the sector to work out how they will respond to the new legislation and what role they need to undertake in the logistics supply chain. This event will provide a good platform for all professionals within the supply chain to communicate their ideas and to understand how the implications of these new regulations can be managed.’
