Railway Upgrade Plan to continue over Easter

03 March 2016/Categories: Industry News

Network Rail and its employees will be working over the Easter holidays this year to improve train services for the benefit of hundreds of thousands of passengers from Anglia.

This part of the company's Railway Upgrade Plan follows the work that took place over weekends in February to deliver a more reliable railway for services in and out of London Liverpool Street. Improvements are also taking place to prepare the line for the new Crossrail service.

Improvements that are to be made include modernising the overhead lines that power the trains, as well as upgrades to the line to make them suitable for the new trains, which will run between London and Shenfield.

Network Rail also intends to increase the frequency of the new services from the beginning of 2017.

Speaking on the changes Network Rail staff have been making to the lines, Richard Schofield, route managing director, thanked passengers for their patience with the upgrades as they have only been able to make modifications by closing down stations and railways to trains.

It's hoped that, as Easter is a time when less than half the standard 4.5 million people use the railway, Network Rail will be able to get as much work done as possible with minimal disruption to further services.
