WheelRight wins prestigious international safety innovation award at Intertraffic

06 April 2016/Categories: CILT, Industry News, Logistics & Supply Chain

Tyre pressure monitoring specialist, WheelRight, has won a prestigious Intertraffic Innovation Award (safety category).

The awards were presented on Tuesday, 5th April at the opening ceremony of Intertraffic Amsterdam, the world’s largest exhibition for the traffic, parking and highways infrastructure sectors.

WheelRight was crowned the overall winner by a judging panel comprising industry heavyweights, including Dr Peter van der Knaap, managing director of the Institute for Road Safety Research, for its innovative tyre pressure monitoring technology system.

Under-inflated tyres are a widespread, global issue that is threatening the safety of our roads and drivers. Across Europe alone, under-inflated tyres are a contributory factor in 9% of all fatal road accidents and 41% of serious injury road accidents, according to the latest EU data.

WheelRight is exhibiting its award-winning technology at Intertraffic from 5-8 April 2016 to raise awareness of the serious road safety that risk under-inflated tyres pose to road users worldwide.

WheelRight’s technology has raised substantial levels of interest across the European transport sector, and could soon be a common feature across the continent’s service stations, forecourts and car parks. The company’s award-winning instrument is a robust alternative to costly, inaccurate and time consuming manual tyre pressure checks. WheelRight’s 'drive-over' system generates easy-to-read printouts or text messages for drivers to quickly reveal the state of their tyre pressures.

“We’re delighted to receive this international award in safety and innovation,” said John Catling, chief executive of WheelRight. “We believe that regular tyre pressure checks offer significant cost and safety benefits to all drivers – not to mention, peace of mind. We have no doubt that accidents could be reduced if drivers across Europe were to check their vehicles’ tyre pressures more frequently. Better safe than sorry.”
