Railway upgrade finishing touches between Stafford and Crewe in May

14 April 2016/Categories: Industry News

Passengers who are going to be travelling through Stafford are urged to check announcements as the stations on this line will be receiving finishing touches to their railway upgrade over the bank holiday weekends in May.

The changes are part of Network Rail's £40 billion Railway Upgrade Plan and the company's engineers will be working at Stafford to remove one of the last remaining bottlenecks on the West Coast main line.

By doing this, there will be added capacity to accommodate more passenger and freight services between Birmingham and Manchester, and London and the north-west.

It's also believed that these last changes will improve the reliability of the trains and see a reduction to journey times.

Martin Frobisher, route director at Network Rail, said: "The work will also enable more freight and passenger services to run through the area and on the entire West Coast main line in future."
