Industrial and logistics hub to be built in County Durham

15 April 2016/Categories: Industry News

Major developer Citrus Durham has been awarded planning permission to build a mega logistics hub in County Durham.

The site is expected to be two million square feet and will be known as Integra 61 as part of a 200-acre site at J61 of the A1, which is close to Durham city, reports Logistics Manager.

A mix of businesses will fill the units when the project is finished, including a 70-bedroom hotel, a residential care home, restaurants and retail units, among other things.

There will also be up to 270 homes built along the boundaries of the site, which is next to Bowburn village.

Property consultants Naylors will be a joint letting agent with Avison Young for the commercial development of the project.

It's hoped that the built and running of the hub will help to create as many as 4,000 jobs, if not more.

Robert Rae, from Avison Young, said: "We are aware of a number of sizeable requirements in the market right now and there are few, if any, other comparable schemes in the north-east that can accommodate these."

Citrus will aim to begin work on the infrastructure from early 2017 and will aim to have the first units occupied by Autumn of next year.
