Dutch firm manufactures 100% gluten-free oats

21 April 2016/Categories: Industry News

Dutch firm Vandinter Semo has developed a chain for producing oats that it guarantees will be 100 per cent gluten free.

The company is claiming that this certified chain is the first of its kind in western Europe, thanks to their strict farming restrictions, reports Food Manufacture.

In order to ensure no rye, barley or wheat contaminates the oats, the seeds are cultivated on Dutch farmland that hasn't had any other crops for a minimum of eight years.

Vandinter Semo works very closely with a number of different farmers, giving them guidance and keeping an eye on their processes.

Even after the grains are harvested they are subject to cleaning and inspection, thereby certifying their 100 per cent gluten-free credentials.

The technology that has been developed to do this was made by Vandinter Semo in concurrence with Wageningen University.

A previous example that formed the basis of this machinery was an oat-peeling production line that Vandinter Semo created.

Customers will be able to choose from a range of 100 per cent GF oats, including normal porridge oats, ground oats, toasted oats and extruded oats.
