Geodis UK promises bright future for young apprentices

22 April 2016/Categories: CILT, Industry News, Freight Forwarding, Logistics & Supply Chain

Geodis UK is helping a group of young apprentices to kickstart a long and prosperous career in logistics through a new scheme which will see one of the world’s largest transport companies nurture a pool of home grown talent to continue driving its business forward.

The company has recruited five young people keen to enter into the transport industry, providing each of them with on the job experience and enabling them to work towards a nationally accredited NVQ qualification which will stand them in good stead for a long and fruitful career.

The apprentices are based at company sites in High Wycombe, Northampton, West Thurrock, Warrington and Watford Gap.

It comes as the company makes a concerted effort to recruit young people into the business through apprenticeship schemes, nurturing the next generation of employees to continue steering Geodis in the right direction.

In partnership with Northampton-based learning and development provider Tess Group, Geodis is offering three different apprenticeships – customer services, truck planning and warehousing.

The new recruits are completing a series of modules while working on the job. Their work is being regulated by a college assessor and will be completed over 12 to 18 months depending on whether they complete NVQ Levels 2 or 3.

They are being shown the ropes by experienced members of staff who are acting as dedicated mentors, each encouraging and guiding the apprentices through successful completion of the various modules.

The apprenticeship also gives them the chance to see first-hand the way the business operates and the vast range of careers available across the company.
Jamie Cuthbert, Managing Director, of Geodis, said: “There are many different aspects to the logistics industry and there are many different aspects to our own business. New, younger recruits are the lifeblood of a business like ours and once they have joined, there are endless opportunities for them to continue to grow and progress for many years.

“Logistics plays a major part in modern, everyday life. While the transport industry may be overshadowed by more appealing industries, it can actually foster many exciting challenges, and in turn help young people grow in confidence and achieve job satisfaction as they learn more about the complexities of the industry.

“It’s definitely one of the best industries for young people looking for growth, diversity and longevity in their careers.”
