There will be finishing touches added to the line that connects Stafford and Crewe over the May bank holiday weekends.
Forming part of Network Rail's £40 billion Railway Upgrade Plan, the company's staff will be working at Stafford to remove one of the last major bottlenecks on the West Coast main line.
By doing this, there will be room at the station for more passenger and freight services between Birmingham and Manchester, London and the north-west.
The changes also hope to improve the reliability of services and improve journey times for those travelling on the trains.
Lines between Stafford and Crewe will be partially closed between 30th April to 7th May and 28th May to 31st May.
Martin Frobisher, route director at Network Rail, said: "The work will enable more freight and passenger services to run through the area and on the entire West Coast line in future.
"Building this new railway to improve services for passengers is part of our wider £40 billion Railway Upgrade Plan, which will help meet the demands of an increasing number of passengers for many years to come."
