Third-party logistics company Vantec Europe has opened a new warehouse at Hillthorn Business Park in Sunderland.
A huge project, it covers 436,000 square feet and cost £23 million to open the new building, which will serve the automotive industry, reports Logistics Manager.
The two exclusive clients that will be benefitting from the space and logistics provided by the site are Nissan and Infiniti.
Other warehousing space by Vantec includes another development in Sunderland, which it opened in 2013 and measures 417,000 square feet. Similar to the new area, the space at Turbine Business Park handles logistics work for Nissan.
Martin Kendall, Vantec Europe managing director, said: "Our strategy is to get all the warehousing for Nissan as close to the plant as possible to reduce logistics costs."
The benefits of this aren't restricted to the manufacturer, nor to Vantec as Mr Kendall states: "The long-term plan allows us to deliver cost-effective logistics solutions to our customer."
