A dairy producer from Somerset has been given a fine after her cheese was found to have contained harmful bacteria, including listeria, salmonella and e-coli.

The farmer in question, Frances Wood, is from West Cranmore and has been prosecuted previously for breaking 2013 Food Safety and Hygiene Regulations, reports Food Manufacture.

She has consistently failed to keep the dairy clean and maintain a high level of repair and conditions.

Ms Wood has been fined £778 for the two offences and £6,000 in prosecution costs was awarded to Mendip District Council at Yeovil Magistrates' Court.

The district judge has given her dairy farm a hygiene prohibition notice, which prevents her from managing any cheese production or processing future business.

In his judgement, the district judge said that Ms Wood had been running "a shoddy operation" and that her cheese was "a high-risk product and, there, higher standard of diligence were required".
