David Wells, chief executive of the Freight Transport Association (FTA), has asked for a meeting with the new Mayor of London to discuss how his plans might impact the UK freight and logistics sector.
So far, Sadiq Khan has announced proposals that will call for changes to vans and lorries that service this industry.
His changes include an additional central London charge in 2017 for these vehicles in an attempt to improve air pollution.
Mr Khan is also planning to make it a requirement for vans and lorries to be Euro VI/6 across London by 2018 and has made a ruling for lorries to be Euro VI across all of Greater London as early as 2020.
While these are positive measures for the general public, the FTA has said that his plans are going to add significant cost to transport operators and businesses. Some small businesses could be so heavily impacted that they are worried about being put out of work.
In his letter, Mr Wells said: "The logistics industry is working - and succeeding - in improving its record on safety and emissions in London but more can be done."
He added that he feels that these changes can be done without "adding any unnecessary cost to London life and development".
