Professionals from the highways and transportation industry gathered to celebrate remarkable schemes and initiatives at the prestigious CIHT Awards ceremony in London last night.

The 11th annual CIHT Awards saw the outstanding achievements of those working in the sector rewarded and their work promoted as best practice to the industry.

CIHT presented Graham Dalton with its Institution Award and Jacobs Principal Transport Planner, Ed Downer, received the CIHT / Balfour Beatty Young Professional Award.

The CIHT Institution Award is for excellence within the transportation profession and to celebrate individuals who, through their work, have made a significant contribution that has benefited the public and the profession.

Sue Sharland, CIHT President said: “CIHT is delighted to present Graham Dalton with the Institution Award. This award recognises Graham’s successful leadership of the Highways Agency and his work in transforming the Agency into Highways England.”

This year’s ceremony, which was held on 9 June 2016 at the Pavilion at the Tower of London, with 450 industry professionals, was hosted by Journalist and Broadcaster, Jennie Bond.

Well-deserved winners from across the sector took to the stage to accept their awards from CIHT President, Sue Sharland and Jennie Bond. They were joined by Rt Hon Sir Alan Duncan MP, who presented the CIHT / Department for Transport Reducing Sign Clutter Award.

Sue Percy, CIHT Chief Executive, said "The CIHT Awards are a celebration of all the excellent work currently taking place in the sector. They demonstrate that our industry continues to produce high calibre schemes, innovative products and ways of working, that contribute to both the transport community and society.

“We would like to thank all of those who took the time to enter their projects. The quality of the entries was extremely high and those who made the shortlist should be very proud.

“We hope that this year’s entries will inspire even more organisations to enter the Awards next year.”

CIHT would like to thank all those who participated in the event, including the sponsors for their generosity, the Pavilion at the Tower of London for their hospitality and all the organisations who submitted an excellent array of entries.

There were over 190 entries, with 48 projects making it into the final shortlist in 12 categories. However, there could only be 12 winners (see below).
