World-first Twitter service will help keep Tube users moving

21 June 2016/Categories: Industry News

London commuters can now receive Twitter notifications concerning any severe disruption to the capital’s underground or rail networks.

Twitter users who follow any of TFL’s feeds can choose to receive instant notifications to their smartphone or mobile device about delays tweeted on Overground, Central and District line, and TfL Rail accounts.

It is hoped that by informing passengers straight away, they will be able to react and change their travel plans accordingly, helping them potential inconvenience.

Users can even customise what time their alerts come through to sync up with when they typically travel.

Passengers can opt-in to the service in a few minutes by visiting tfl.gov.uk/twitter-alerts and entering some brief essential details.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan reckons the service will become “an essential tool for millions of Tube passengers”.

He added: “Like every Londoner, I rely on public transport to get me around [and this] is an innovative way of providing people with live updates and contributes to my goal of making it as easy as possible to get around the capital.”

The free service, which is still in its pilot stage, marks the first time Twitter has worked with a transport authority on a live travel information service of this kind.
