Modal Training provides UK-first qualifications to the logistics sector

05 July 2016/Categories: Industry News, Aviation, Freight Forwarding, Logistics & Supply Chain

Modal Training Limited has recently welcomed Sue Chapman as Sector Lead for Air, who will oversee the organisation's Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) and freight forwarding services.

Sue was closely involved with the design and development of the UK's first accredited freight forwarding qualifications through the QCF and logistics industry-recognised awarding body Open Awards. She will be delivering the Level 1-4 qualifications at Modal Training from the beginning of July.

Sue is also heading up Modal Training's AEO training and consultancy service, which includes workshops designed for those who haven't yet made a start on their AEO application and want to know how. Modal Training will help businesses assess their current position against the required standard, understand what needs to be done and develop a plan to make it happen.

Sue also provides tailored consultancy support for businesses who want to apply or may have already started the AEO certification process. This support can range from one-off advice on a specific issue, to managing the whole project.

Patrick Henry, Managing Director of Modal Training, commented:

"The idea behind Modal Training is to provide training of the absolute highest quality to businesses across the logistics supply chain. Not only do we have to invest in the advanced equipment and facilities to achieve this, but also have a solid, knowledgeable team behind us to deliver these courses.

"Sue's appointment is a real coup for us, and her expertise and experience in the industry will be incredibly beneficial. We're delighted to have her on board."

Modal Training is also progressing plans to open the UK's first Freight Forwarding Academy at its Immingham site later this year, under Sue's leadership.

The Freight Forwarding Academy will deliver training for the digital age, using sophisticated simulation software to recreate complex freight forwarding operations. For instance, the impact of adverse conditions leading to the late arrival of a consignment can be tested in controlled environments, which accelerates learning and builds skills and experience in a structured way.

Sue spent 10 years as sea freight manager for Kuehne + Nagel, after working as an account manager for P&O Nedlloyd's freight forwarding sector. She has also provided consultancy services for the British International Freight Association (BIFA), and headed up the AEO project at logistics and distribution group Advanced Supply Chain.

Sue added: "Modal Training is giving me the opportunity to work with employers across the full logistics supply chain, which is a challenge, but one I'm relishing. It's a UK first and something that is unique for the industry and I'm excited to be a part of it."

Modal Training's AEO and freight forwarding services are already available and, when the £7million, 5,700m2 Immingham site becomes fully operational later this year, they will be joined by a comprehensive range of integrated, multimodal logistics training courses for road, rail, air, sea and support services. On-site facilities will include state-of-the-art simulators for maritime crew, truck drivers and crane operators, engineering and rail safety training facilities and extensive warehousing.
