More London postcodes included in Amazon’s fresh grocery service

11 July 2016/Categories: Industry News

Amazon has expanded availability of its fresh grocery delivery service less than a month after its initial launch in London.

AmazonFresh is now available in 128 London postcodes, up from the 69 when the service was introduced in the second week of June, with 59 additional postcodes in north, east, and south London.

This means that eligible customers, who pay £79 a year for the online retailer’s Amazon Prime subscription, can fill their online basket with more than 130,000 products, from well-known everyday brands to local food produce in Borough Market and Notting Hill.

The service has been most popular in the E14, N1 and EC1 postcodes, with ripe avocados, organic vegetables, mixed olive sourdough, and reduced fat houmous being the best-selling items.

Ajay Kavan, vice president of AmazonFresh, said that the initial response has been very positive with customers citing low prices, wide selection and fast delivery as their reasons to shop on AmazonFresh.

“We are honing and improving our offer based on customer feedback and will continue to do so as we open up the service to an even greater number of Londoners,” he added.

Amazon typically uses UPS, Hermes and DHL for its UK deliveries but a spokesman for AmazonFresh clarified that “orders will be delivered by local and regional independent delivery providers”.
