Cycling grants up for grabs

27 July 2016/Categories: Industry News, Active Travel & Travel Planning, Transport Planning

Grants will be given to community projects to encourage the use of bikes as the Cycling Grants London (CGL)programme returns for its second year.

Up to 24 new projects will receive a grant of up to £10,000 over a three-year period.

The grants aim to encourage people of all ages and backgrounds to cycle more often and more safely. They also give organisations the funding needed to teach new cyclists skills and boost their confidence when out on the road.CGL is funded by TfL and managed by the environmental regeneration charity Groundwork London.

Since its launch CGL has given grants to community groups with 31 organisations already receiving funding, which has helped more than 1,000 people get cycling.

This year, it is donating over £180,000 to cycling initiatives run by organisations such as resident's associations, charities and youth groups.

At this year's London Cycling Awards Campaign, three CGL-funded projects were nominated for Community Project of the Year, with Brothers on Bikes emerging winners.

By the end of this summer, the funding will benefit more than 3,000 people with new cycling skills.

Projects already funded by CGL include Wheels for Wellbeing, which teaches partially sighted people to cycle; The Connection at St Martin's, which reaches out to homeless people and Summer of Cycling, to help women with physical and learning difficulties.

Applications are accepted between 1 August and 19 September. For more information, visit www.cyclinggrants.london
